During the early years of the recorded sound era, three names dominated the phonograph market: Columbia, Edison and Victor. But these were hardly the only producers of such machines. From the 1890s onward, dozens and perhaps hundreds of other companies competed for a slice of the phonographic pie.Some of these secondary phonograph brands offered machines that were distinctly inferior to those produced by the big three. Others, though, were able to match the phonographic giants in excellence and quality. Part of the enjoyment of learning about these other phonograph makers and seeking out their machines in the antique and collectible markets is discovering a lesser known machine that is nevertheless a gem of craftsmanship and beauty.
